The James Hogan Time Travel Audio Book

Mr. James Hogan, M.A. is the author of multiple books which have been used for the classes he taught. We plan to create professional audio recordings of the books that Mr. Hogan authored starting with Time Travel: At the Speed of Christ's Light: A Journey through Catholic History and Theology and professionally edit them for use in both audio book format as well as for broadcast over Catholic radio. Mr. Hogan will add his personal commentary.

Time Travel offers a journey into the past of the Catholic Church in order to learn theological lessons in the present. It is part-history, part-theology, part-apologetics, and part biography. Time Travel faces head-on some of the more controversial moments within Catholic history and tells their story from the inside out. Just as stained-glass windows look more beautiful from the inside, so does the Church. Catholic history is seeing the scenes depicted in the windows at the speed of Light - Christ's light.

Mr. Dick Russ long-time Cleveland television personality who currently works both with Catholic Radio in Cleveland as well as EWTN has volunteered his professional expertise to assist in this project to ensure we develop a professional quality product that will be useful to as wide an audience as possible.

Smooth Stone Foundation, which was founded by a grateful former student of Mr. Hogan, will assist in the distribution of the audio recording to provide the engaging content and dynamic style of Mr. Hogan to listeners around the country and beyond. As the Smooth Stone Foundation is a registered 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, your contribution to this project is tax-deductible.

Production costs for the project will be controlled to enable us to  directly compensate Mr. Hogan for his work on this project helping him to support his family in Cleveland.

The minimum amount needed to complete the Time Travel project development and rollout will be $12,500. We would like to raise $50,000 to do additional projects with Mr Hogan to preserve more of his teaching. Additional projects may include: An Audio or Video recording of his teaching from his book “Cross Training: An Introduction to Catholic Theology” which presents all of the content from the Catechism of the Catholic church that is most critical for youth to know and understand in an informative yet often humorous question and answer format.

Please give generously so that we can preserve all of his teaching content in the most engaging and entertaining way possible.

Mr. Jim Hogan, St. Ignatius High School theology teacher for over 30 years, is no longer in the classroom. But he has much more to give. Help us preserve his dynamic teaching style and content for generations to come. Mr. James Hogan, M.A. has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, love and gratitude expressed to him by countless former theology students and their parents. For more than 30 years Mr. Hogan taught tens of thousands of high school students from the greater Cleveland area. He is loved for his passionate defense of all the truths of the Catholic faith delivered with dynamic clarity, quick wit, and memorable humor. One former student’s sentiments represent the feelings of countless others: Joe Soltis ’01 said,“Mr. Hogan was very important to my spiritual education and development as a teen. I had hoped that my 4 sons would be able to learn from him as well. There are few teachers who have the ability to engage the intellect and move the heart of teenagers the way Mr. Hogan can. I was blessed to go to a Catholic school with an amazing Theology department. I want the same for my boys.” For the first time in over 30 years Mr. Hogan is not in the classroom this school year. However, Mr. Hogan has more to give and we don’t want to miss this opportunity. Will you help us preserve his teaching for generations to come?

Catholic Video Contest

What kinds of videos are young people watching?

The answer is: Whatever their friends watch. In the world of social media, they see what their friends share. These videos might be funny. They might be surprising, good or bad. They might have the power to lead closer to eternal happiness with God, or further away.

So why not inspire a generation of filmmakers to make and share videos that are good? Why not transform the internet with content that is beautiful? Why not communicate something that is true?

Smooth Stone Foundation is getting ready to do just that with the launch of our first-ever video contest!

We’ve collected data and we know that the talent is there. We’ve learned that offering lucrative prizes is the surest way to motivate the competition. We are ready to work with a third party firm that runs similar contests for major national brands in the for-profit world.

We are gearing up to launch a world-class contest. But we need a little more help. Besides continued support and prayers, we need to spread the word to more people, and raise the funds for prizes that will inspire our contestants to create the best videos they can.

Here are three ways YOU can be a part it:

1. Share this video.

2. Encourage any talented or aspiring filmmakers you know to complete our survey and sign up for updates.

3. Donate today to help fund the filmmakers of tomorrow.*

Contact us with question or concerns.

* Smooth Stone Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization and all project donations are tax-deductible.

Video Contest’s Financial Details: The remaining fund raising target for this project is $35,000, including the $20,000 needed to pay the 3rd party vendors to administer the technical and legal aspects of the contest, as well as prize money for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place totaling $10,000. The remaining sum would offset some of the marketing, promotional and payment processing fees. This does not include any allocations for our overhead or staff.

If we raise over the $35,000 minimum, additional earmarked funds would allow us to expand prizes to different categories, age groups, and topics, promote the contest through other forms of advertising, hire staff specifically to provide more administrative, marketing, and service support and help us launch a second contest sooner. Please give generously.

If you would like to make a donation of $5,000 or more, contact Jim Soltis. If you would like to underwrite additional prize money for a specific topic close to your heart, please let us know. We want this to be a gift from the whole people of God, not just from us. Will you help?

Formation of a Catholic Businessmen’s Networking Group in SW Florida

The Saint Joseph's Businessmen Network is an organization dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker. We are Catholic men who look to support each other in our mission to know God and serve Him in our given vocation of Husband and/or Father or single state. We will support each other through prayer, fellowship, networking and accountability in our role of leader and protector of our families.

In order to create a culture of virtue and life, Smooth Stone Foundation firmly believes that we need to help each other in business as well as in other areas of life. Imagine what good we could do if all faithful Americans organized to help each other in business!

In that spirit, Smooth Stone Foundation would like to help facilitate the formation of a chapter of the St. Joseph’s Businessmen’s Networking Group http://www.sjbn.info in Ave Maria or South West Florida. We are currently looking for men interested in participating as potential leaders or members of the soon-to-be-formed local chapter.

In Cleveland Ohio in 2010, the founder of St. Joseph’s Businessman’s Network, Bill McCarron, saw the benefit of bringing Catholic businessmen together to help each other grow in professional, personal and spiritual excellence. The Founder of Smooth Stone Foundation, Jim Soltis, benefited greatly from this group before he moved to SW Florida and he would like to help bring this opportunity to the men of Florida.

The simple proven format of the bi-weekly morning meetings effectively moves the group through prayer, introduction of the members new and old, reflection on the Gospel, member business challenge and subsequent discussion, accountability goals, an 8-minute professional spotlight for one member, an opportunity for each member to give an ‘elevator speech’ on how the other men might help them, followed by closing prayer.

Local members will enjoy the potential to network with the other members of SJBN outside of Florida through the ‘members only’ section of SJBN which is a lot like a Catholic LinkedIn.

In you are interested in becoming a potential member or leader in Florida please email Jim Soltis jim@smoothstone.org or call Ph: (877) 462-1917 x 101

If you would like to donate to this effort, in order to keep dues low, Smooth Stone Foundation would like to help defray the initial start-up & administrative costs of this group by raising $3,000 in seed money.
